PROFILE OF PROF. D.D KUUPOLE
Domwini Dabire Kuupole is the first male child of ten siblings of a polygamous home among a typical agrarian community of Nandom-Kohgle in the Upper West Region of Ghana. He was born on June 28, 1956.
Having been born among a people whose main occupation is farming and animal husbandry, Domwini, as a little boy engaged in farming and shepherding of cattle at an early age. However, he realized that he must have formal education therefore, he enrolled into Kohgle Roman Catholic Primary and Middle School from 1963 to 1971 combining school, farming, shepherding, and up to 6th Form in the Secondary School.
Determined to improve his and the living conditions of his other siblings, he committed himself to his studies whole-heartedly at the Nandom Secondary School from 1971 to1978 after which he successfully progressed academically to University of Cape Coast for his first degree in Bachelor of Arts in French, and Diploma in Education. Again, the quest for excellence and quality education offered him the impetus to take advantage of a French Government Scholarship to pursue his M.Phil and Doctorate at Université de Franche-Comte, Besancon, France, in General and Applied Linguistics, Didactics and Sociolinguistics.
He earned his M.Phil in General Linguistics and Didactics in 1989 and his PhD degree in Applied Linguistics and Sociolinguistics in 1995.
With keen interest and the desire to make a career in the academia, he joined the Faculty of Arts, Department of French, University of Cape Coast as a Lecturer in 1989. He then rose through the ranks by dint of hard work and determination to earn his full professorship in April 2007.
Besides lecturing and assessing students at undergraduate and post-graduate levels, he has served in various capacities within the University, namely:
- Hall Master, Casely-Hayford Hall (His alma Mater) from 1998 to 2001
- Head of Department of French from 2001 to 2004
- Vice-Dean, Faculty of Arts from 2001 to 2002
- Dean, Faculty of Arts from 2002 to 2009
Also, he has been and still is a member of many committees in the University of Cape Coast; Board of Graduate Studies, Executive Committee, Development Committee, Finance Committee, Editorial Board of Journal of Educational Development and Practice, Institute of Education. This is but a few of the committees in served on.
His efforts and hard work did not fail to catch the watchful eyes of the French people whose language he has promoted extensively as a Professor and publisher in French. He, therefore, was awarded in April 2007 as Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Government.
Thus, that is how a shepherd boy form a subsistence farming community rose to become a Professor driven by strong quest and passion for quality and excellence.
However, at the crown of this achievement, is a sincere lovely wife, Mrs. Alfredina Kuupole and two equally lovely children: Sandrine and Ingrid.
